The construction of the Fresh Grocer at Progress Plaza marks the 10th store in the Philadelphia region for the supermarket chain. The store opened in December 2009 and is the first supermarket to inhabit a spot in Progress Plaza since 1999. The 24-hour super market contains a sushi bar as well as a wide array of prepared foods. Ground level parking and a roof deck providing 120 spots also are available to shoppers.
Remington Group, now Avison Young, oversaw the development of the entire project from financial analysis through close-out. To meet the Fresh Grocer’s desire for a sustainable building, a white roof was installed and construction waste was recycled. Monitors that display energy consumption are on view in the entry lobby. Remington, now Avison Young, also managed the upgrade of the driveways and parking areas of the entire Plaza.

We completed the contractor bid process and had shovels in the ground in just one month. The store was opened 7 months later, following our project schedule that allowed for stocking to begin before the buildings was 100% complete.
